Strengthening Coordination and Equity in Kenya’s Tobacco Control Fund: IILA Hosts Key CSO Consultation   Author: IILA

     Jul 15, 2025

On the journey toward more inclusive and effective public health financing, IILA convened a CSO Consultative Meeting focused on strengthening the strategic direction, access, and transparency of Kenya’s Tobacco Control Fund.

Held in Nairobi, the meeting brought together diverse voices from across the civil society space, including:
YIPAR Youth In Power, Africa Rise Kenya, Tax Justice Network Africa, National Taxpayers Association, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), NCD Alliance Kenya, Kenya Tobacco Control Alliance (KETCA), Den of Hope, Foresight Advisory Africa, and others.

The consultative forum addressed three central themes:

Improving access to the Tobacco Control Fund for non-state actors, especially grassroots CSOs driving change on the ground.
Establishing transparent, timely, and equitable disbursement procedures to avoid bureaucratic bottlenecks and delays.
Setting shared priorities for investment in tobacco control, ranging from health education to enforcement and industry monitoring.

As Kenya works toward strengthening the governance and effectiveness of its public health financing tools, this meeting was a critical step in ensuring that the Tobacco Control Fund delivers for the communities most affected by tobacco harm.

IILA remains committed to ensuring that the Fund catalyzes equity, innovation, and accountability in tobacco control across the country.
