Strengthening Trans Fat Regulation in Kenya: IILA Hosts GHAI for Strategic Dialogue   Author: IILA

     May 25, 2025

IILA had the privilege of hosting representatives from the Global Health Advocacy Incubator for a high-level exchange focused on eliminating industrially produced trans fats (iTFAs) from Kenya’s food system.

This session offered a valuable opportunity to reflect on progress made toward regulatory change, share experiences from past and ongoing advocacy, and explore ways to accelerate policy action that safeguards public health. Conversations focused on the technical and political pathways needed to advance iTFA regulation, particularly as Kenya continues to align its food policy framework with international best practices.

The visit highlighted the essential role of collaboration between national organizations and global technical partners in tackling noncommunicable disease risk factors at the systems level. IILA expressed its appreciation for GHAI’s continued support, including knowledge-sharing and policy expertise, which are instrumental as Kenya works to adopt and implement robust food safety regulations.

Together, we reaffirm our shared commitment to a healthier, trans fat–free future for Kenya and the region.
