IILA hosted a three-day multi-stakeholder forum that brought together digital advocates, journalists, digital campaigners, faith-based organizations, and civil society groups to advance efforts around Kenya’s food policy reform, particularly the adoption of Front-of-Pack Warning Labels (FOPWL). The meeting followed the release of Kenya’s Nutrient Profile Model as an official working document, a milestone that provides the foundation for implementing FOPWL to promote healthier food environments.

Key reflections from the forum highlighted the significant momentum already gained, with over 6,000 social media posts and more than 16 media features, including radio, print, and digital, already pushing the FOPWL narrative forward. The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) shared how food policy messaging has been integrated into faith-based platforms to inform communities about the dangers of misleading food marketing. Corporate Accountability and Public Participation in Africa emphasized the ongoing challenge of industry interference and underscored the need for strategic partnerships to counter it.

Moreover, the forum highlighted the power of storytelling through personal experiences and the crucial role of journalists and digital advocates in shaping public opinion and influencing policy. IILA continues to champion the use of inclusive, cross-sectoral strategies to build a strong, unified voice that calls for the urgent adoption of clear warning labels to protect the public, especially childrenfrom ultra-processed and unhealthy food products.
