IILA Champions Kenya’s Leadership in Global Front-of-Package Labelling Dialogue   Author: IILA

      5/14/2025

On Friday, May 16th, IILA played a key role in the Global Updates on Front-of-Package Warning Labelling (FOPWL) webinar hosted by the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). The webinar brought together public health and policy experts from different regions to share experiences and progress on implementing front-of-package warning labels as part of strategies to prevent non-communicable diseases.

IILA’s CEO, Celine Akinyi, joined the panel to represent Kenya and share insights from the country's advocacy journey toward adopting strong and evidence-based food labelling policies. Her contribution focused on the role of civil society in policy advocacy, the importance of aligning national regulations with global best practices, and how front-of-package labels can empower consumers to make healthier choices.

The session provided a platform for dialogue between African and Caribbean stakeholders, reflecting a growing global consensus on the need for effective nutrition labelling. IILA’s participation highlighted Kenya’s commitment to policies that prioritize public health and reaffirmed the organization’s role in shaping national and regional discussions on food policy.
