IILA participated in the Alcohol Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting alongside stakeholders from government and civil society to advance alcohol control strategies. The meeting focused on reviewing the National Alcohol Use Prevention Strategy, analyzing updated NACADA data, and revising the TWG workplan.

A key highlight was IILA’s presentation on the 2024 Tax Laws Amendment Act, advocating for increased excise taxes on alcoholic beverages as a public health measure. This aligns with IILA’s ongoing efforts to support legislative reforms that reduce alcohol-related harm and promote healthier Kenyan communities.

The meeting underscored the importance of fiscal tools in addressing substance abuse and reinforced the role of collaborative policymaking in safeguarding public health.
