Trans Fat Free Tuesdays: IILA's Q1 Digital Campaign on Safer Food   Author: IILA Communications team

     March 31, 2025

Throughout Quarter 1 of 2025, IILA dedicated every Tuesday to a digital awareness drive under the theme "Trans Fat Free Tuesday." This initiative aimed to educate the public on the dangers of industrially produced trans fats, a hidden but deadly ingredient in many processed foods.

The campaign highlighted the connection between trans fats and the alarming rise in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in Kenya, presenting straightforward facts and calls to action. Each weekly post sparked meaningful dialogue and advocated for stricter regulations to eliminate harmful food ingredients.

    Key themes covered in Q1:

    • What trans fats are and why they’re harmful

    • Trans fats as a driver of heart disease

    • Food justice and the right to safe nutrition

This digital drive forms part of IILA’s broader advocacy to ensure that every Kenyan has access to safe, healthy, and transparent food systems. The momentum built in Q1 sets the tone for continued engagement and impact in the months to come.
