IILA was honoured to join the Kenya Alliance Control Alliance, Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations, Development Gateway: An IREX Venture, NCD Alliance Kenya, YIPAR Youth In Power, Africa Rise - Kenya, Being Africa, NATIONAL TAXPAYERS ASSOCIATION, Stowelink Foundation , Den of Hope Group, Students Campaign Against Drugs, Pink Hearts Cancer Support Foundation and other tobacco control advocates in commemorating #WorldNoTobaccoDay2025. The day began with a vibrant procession and culminated in a community event at Kaloleni Social Hall in Makadara Constituency, Nairobi County. Together, we stood in solidarity to protect youth and communities from the harmful influence of the tobacco industry. Key messages delivered:
We urge the public not to be deceived by the tobacco industry’s sleek packaging, flavoured products, and misleading marketing tactics. These are deliberate strategies to attract young people and normalize addiction. Behind the glossy appeal lies a harsh reality of disease, death, and exploitation.
We strongly urge the Kenyan government to uphold its commitment to Article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control which calls for the protection of public health policies from the vested interests of the tobacco industry. Ensuring transparency and safeguarding policymaking from industry interference is crucial to saving lives and securing the health of future generations.
We celebrate all partners and advocates who made this day impactful and reaffirmed the call to unmask the appeal by exposing the misleading tactics of the tobacco and nicotine industry.
